Surgery & Maternity Services

Surgery & Maternity Services

From nurses and physicians to physiotherapists, occupational therapists and social workers, the surgery program includes teams who care for patients' pre- and post- surgery (with the exception of Cardiac and Renal patients, whose care falls under the Heart and Renal programs). PHC provides surgical services at two sites (Mount Saint Joseph and St. Paul's) to meet the needs of the local and regional populations. Services at Mount Saint Joseph are general surgery, geriatric dentistry, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, plastic surgery and urology. Services at St. Paul's are general surgery, gynecology, otolaryngology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, thoracic surgery, urology and vascular surgery.

Integrated Medicine/Surgery

While many patients who receive care at our facilities come for either medical or surgical procedures, those requiring respiratory and gastro-intestinal (GI) care often require both. The Integrated Medicine/Surgery program ensures there is continuity between the medical and surgical interventions patients receive.

Maternity Centre

The Maternity Centre at St. Paul’s Hospital boasts the province’s only cardiac obstetrical and renal obstetrical programs, supporting pregnant women with cardiac and renal issues.  We are a Level III maternity Centre which means we can support some of the most complex pregnancies and mothers with co-existing medical issues.  We also operate a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NiCU) for babies who require intensive nursing observation and care.
