Vice-President of CST and Special Projects

Vice-President of CST and Special Projects

This announcement is posted on behalf of Mary Ackenhusen, President & CEO, Vancouver Coastal Health:

I am pleased to announce that effective June 18th, Paul Brownrigg, MBA, CMC, will join the VCH senior executive team as Vice-President of CST and Special Projects. This new role was announced as part of a larger leadership reorganization on May 28th, and my vision is that it will become pivotal in the successful development and implementation of the Clinical & Systems Transformation (CST) project across our health authority.

Paul is the founder and President of INSITE Consulting, an agency specializing in project management, change management, operational engineering and technical architecture services aimed at helping health care organizations achieve their strategic goals.

Paul began his career with the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom. From his first role as a diagnostic radiographer, he moved into progressively senior positions, eventually serving as a member of the Executive Team on the Blackburn NHS Trust from 1996-2000.  While with the NHS, Paul led the implementation of several new clinical service models across organizational boundaries, ultimately achieving standardized care and clinical governance structures.

Paul’s name is readily associated with innovation. At various stages in his career, he has led or participated in ground-breaking projects such as the first One-Stop Breast Health Clinic, the first Telemedicine Service in oral and maxillofacial surgery, and one of the UK’s first CT Tele-Radiology Services.

Since immigrating to Canada, Paul has led his consulting firm in a number of challenging assignments, serving as project director for the eHealth Connecting Diagnostic Imaging program, which developed the platform for sharing medical images across BC; and leadership of the clinical transformation initiatives at the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Center for Fraser Health. He has also led a number of complex IT vendor negotiations, including those for the new PACS for VCH, PHC and PHSA.

Paul holds an MBA from the University of Central Lancashire and is a Certified Management Consultant.  He is married with two children and enjoys any opportunity to be on the water amongst BC’s beautiful Gulf Islands.

I am confident that Paul’s professional expertise, along with his passion for system-wide improvement and the application of technology to advance the health and wellbeing of patients, will contribute to our collective success with the CST project, as well as our other strategic priorities of physician engagement and operational performance. Paul’s skills will complement the tremendous clinical and professional practice expertise of Susan Wannamaker, Vice-President, Professional Practice and Chief Clinical Information Officer, and together, they will work in partnership with Barry Rivelis, Chief Information Officer, Lower Mainland Consolidated IMIT Services.

If you have any questions about Paul’s role or recent changes to the senior executive team, I invite you to contact me directly. I welcome your calls and emails. In the meantime, please join me welcoming Paul Brownrigg to Vancouver Coastal Health.
