As part of the STOP HIV/AIDS project, we began routine HIV testing over one year ago. As the first pilot of its kind in Canada, it has now become a province-wide program.
Between October 2011 and September 31, 2012 6,291 tests have been completed at the four Vancouver hospitals, which is a testing rate four times higher than the equivalent time period in 2011. Overall, 26 new HIV diagnoses have occurred in Vancouver hospitals through September 2012.
This increase in testing has led to a rate of approximately 2.6 additional diagnoses per 1000 tests in 2012 compared to 2011. The acceptance rate is equally compelling, with 94% of eligible patients accepting an HIV test when offered.
We would like your feedback on HIV and HIV testing
This is a follow-up survey to our first one, conducted in 2011. This survey is designed to assess clinicians’ thoughts on HIV and HIV testing in the acute care setting.
