Please be advised that the Ministry of Health has made the decision to move all seven Lower Mainland Consolidated services under the direction of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), effective immediately. (Attached FAQs for background).
This change impacts the two Lower Mainland services that Providence Health Care (PHC) leads: Health Information Management (HIM) and Biomedical Engineering.
PHC will work closely with PHSA and our other health authority partners in reviewing the impacts of this change, including the possible expansion of HIM and Bio-Med to a provincial services model. We have been advised that initial plans are for leaders of all the Lower Mainland Consolidated services to become PHSA employees. Most others will remain employees of their home health authorities/organizations for now.
It’s my understanding that the details of the move of Lower Mainland Consolidated services into PHSA will be worked out over the next two months, including which services could be expanded to a provincial scale. During that time, I hope that the many questions we have will be answered.
With that said, this evolution is a big change for everyone, which can be stressful on individuals and families who may be impacted. My pledge is to ensure PHC works closely with our staff and provides as much support as possible with timely and transparent information, as we and other health authorities work with PHSA regarding any transitions in the coming months.
In the meantime, I want to say thank you to all of our LMC leaders, staff and physicians for their ongoing service and commitment. You have built up amazing reputations of excellence and client-focused service since consolidation first occurred in 2009. As part of the PHC family, you have made such a positive difference to patients. You are valued and appreciated and we will be by your side in the weeks and months ahead.
