We are pleased to announce that Dr. Bill MacEwan has accepted the roles of Head of the Department of Psychiatry for Providence Health Care (PHC) and Physician Program Director for the Mental Health Program at PHC effective June 01, 2014. The recommendation for his appointment as Department Head will be formally presented to the PHC Board of Directors at their June meeting.
Dr. MacEwan is well-known in our community through his work at PHC; in the downtown eastside; the University of B.C.; Fraser Health; and generally throughout Vancouver. His association with our organization dates back to the early 1990’s when he worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital until 2003 and since that time at St. Paul’s Hospital.
Dr. MacEwan is a Clinical Professor of Medicine and the Associate Head for Clinical Affairs in the UBC Department of Psychiatry. In his academic role, he has mentored students and residents of all levels with a particular emphasis on challenging patient populations in the community. He is a co-author on many papers and abstracts.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. MacEwan to these new roles and in supporting him in his shared vision to further the Department and Program as a National Leader in Urban Psychiatry and Addiction.
We would also like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Maria Corral for her remarkable leadership in these roles since 2011, as well as her many other clinical and academic contributions to Providence Health Care. We wish her continuing success in her endeavours.
