Flu Season Starts December 2nd!

As you know, December 2nd is the official beginning of the flu season.

In accordance with the Provincial Influenza Control Policy, all health care providers who have not been immunized by this date are required to wear a mask at all times when in patient care locations until the end of flu season in March 2014. A patient care area is defined as an area within a health care facility that is accessible to patients, residents or clients who are there to access care or services – including,

(a) any building, property, or site owned, leased, rented or operated by Providence Health Care where there are patients, residents or clients who are receiving care; and

(b) any patient/client/resident home or other location where Covered Individuals interact with the patient/client/resident in the course of his/her work for Providence Health Care:

Excluded areas are only those where patients would never be present!  

Please report if you have been immunized
If you have been vaccinated you must self-report your immunization to you Division or Department Head administrative office please do so as soon as possible. We will follow up with all individuals who have not reported receiving the vaccine. Members of the Medical staff who choose not to receive a vaccine will be required to wear a mask . 

Opportunities for flu immunization

If you have not been vaccinated there is still opportunity to do so. You can receive your flu shot at your local pharmacy, physician’s office, from a peer nurse immunizer or from one of the remaining on site clinics:

November 28, 2013, Langara Residence Education Room from 1300 to 1600 hours

November 29, 2013, Mount St. Joseph Hospital Harvest Room A&B from 1200 to 1600 hours

November 29, 2013, Holy Family Hospital Education Room from 1300 to 1600 hours
